What is " The Y Factor? "

While most of us have 23 pairs of chromosomes, the “Y” chromosome is the defining factor that determines unique male health and development. Unfortunately, the “Y” chromosome also programmed us to “tough it out” when it comes to our health and it is this type of mentality that causes men to die younger than women. In the U.S., the average lifespan for women is five years longer than men and 57% of all those ages 65 and older are female (Shmerling, 2020).

When you think about women’s health, you immediately think of obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN). But what about men? Where would we go to find a healthcare provider equivalent to an OB-GYN for guys? When it comes to our annual health evaluation, how many of us men have taken our pants off for our primary care provider (PCP) or general practitioner (GP)? If your answer is “never” or “no way!”, you are not alone. The relationship with your PCP or GP is primarily established to address your healthcare needs above the waist. When it comes to addressing your healthcare needs below the waist, this is where The Y Factor comes in.

The Y Factor was created for men, by men! Our mission is to provide a physician-led team of urology experts dedicated to the study and practice of men’s urological wellness & fertility. We wanted to create a comfortable & open-discussion clinical environment that encouraged men to change their health-seeking behaviors. The “Y” factor chromosome determined your beginning as a man and The Y Factor medical centers will keep you in optimal health throughout your life. Women have OB-GYNs & men have The Y Factor!
